La Liturgie des Heures
An incense scent rooted in the founder's family memories of a monk's abbey, giving both smoke and dampness.
Perfumer: Jacques Flori
La Liturgie des Heures is named after the Liturgy of the Hours, the cycle of prayers said at set times of the day. Its starting point, according to artistic director François Hénin, is a childhood memory of Jovoy's founder: his grandfather befriended a monk while both were held captive during the Second World War, and the family later visited the monk's abbey often.
Cypress and green notes tighten the air, while incense, olibanum, cistus and myrrh rise beneath them. The scent is built around resinous smoke, darkened by cistus, with coolness coming before sweetness.
Jacques Flori gave this incense notes of both smoke and humidity, evoking sacred places where time seems to stand still. Patchouli adds an earthy dampness that connects the smoke to the image of cool flagstones.
The brand's story moves between an ancient chapel in southern Italy and a monastery in the Greek hills, with summer heat set against the cold of stone.
