à l’ombre d’Artémis means in the shadow of Artemis. After Jean-David told Suzy Le Helley about the painting The Bath of Artemis, she set out to translate its scene into fragrance.
A fresh, dewy rose sits at the centre, intended to suggest the wet skin of Artemis and her nymphs. Blackcurrant and bergamot open with a lily-of-the-valley accord, followed by a fig tree accord and ambrette beside the rose.
An oakmoss accord, sandalwood and vetiver give the base a woody, mossy depth. For Le Helley, that green setting represents the forest protecting the bathers from the first sunlight and from view. The fragrance brings wet petals and shaded woods together, holding floral brightness within a quieter woodland scene.
