White Linen Legacy
Frédéric Malle's reimagining of White Linen: aldehydic sparkle, jasmine and rose, and a warm amber, musk and vetiver base.
Perfumer: Carlos Benaim
White Linen Legacy belongs to Estée Lauder's Legacy Collection, in which perfume editor Frédéric Malle reimagined the house's classic scents for the 21st century. The Legacy version keeps the richness of the original White Linen while giving it a more geometric structure.
The listed pyramid opens with aldehydes, moves to rose and jasmine at the heart, and settles into a dry down of amber notes, mainly labdanum, with musk, vetiver and cedarwood. The bright, dry sparkle of aldehydes keeps the lush jasmine and rose from feeling heavy, and the flowers then warm into soft amber and musk. Vetiver and cedarwood add a dry woody line that keeps the sweetness in check.
Malle describes the scent as "fire under the ice." The phrase suits a floral the brand calls voluptuous yet still light: crisp and clean on the surface, with sensual warmth underneath. It sits in the light floral family.
The name goes back to the original: Mrs. Estée Lauder said she pictured its wearer as fresh, crisp and clean. The bottle is a substantial glass cylinder with fluting and a heritage rope detail, presented in a fluted box in legacy blue, the founder's favorite shade.
