Idolatry
A gourmand where pistachio, praline and vanilla share space with incense smoke from the start.
Perfumer: Anaïs Biguine
Idolatry is Chapel Factory's take on the most delicious of sins. The idea of black vanilla melting into curling incense shapes the whole composition, so sweetness and smoke move together from the opening.
The top places pistachio and praline beside incense. The slightly green, creamy nuttiness of pistachio and the caramelised sugar feel of praline meet a dry thread of smoke, which keeps the opening from reading as sugar alone.
In the heart, labdanum, vanilla and hazelnut continue the line. Labdanum's leathery resin shades the vanilla, while hazelnut adds a roasted, nutty support. The base of patchouli, incense smoke and benzoin brings earthiness, smoke and balsamic warmth, pulling the dessert-like impression toward darker resin.
Because sweet nuts and smoke run side by side throughout, it suits those who prefer shadowed sweetness to an airy vanilla.
