Soft Tension
An eau de parfum centred on freesia and mate, layered over moss, cedarwood and musk.
Perfumer: Aliénor Massenet
Soft Tension imagines waking in crisp white sheets on the first day of spring, with windows open to drifting highland fog.
Soft Tension by Andrea Maack is an eau de parfum built around two central raw materials, which the brand names as freesia and mate. The perfumer is Alienor Massenet. At the top, the light, clear floral note of freesia is paired with the damp green of moss, so the opening does not rest on the flower alone. In the heart, mate absolute adds a faintly bitter greenness that recalls dried leaves and tea, and this gives the scent its outline. The base is musk and cedarwood. A soft musk is crossed by a dry line of wood, which draws the floral and leafy notes together close to the skin. Sweetness stays low. No single element of flower, leaf, wood or musk takes over, and the character comes from the light pull between them. It works on days when you want a clean feel rather than display, and pairs easily with simple clothes such as a white shirt or a plain knit.
