FLUX
A woody fragrance centred on California sequoia. Cool cardamom and menthol meet a small note of blueberry, then move through conifer needles into dry wood.
Perfumer: Céline Barel
Flux takes its scene from a midnight walk through an ancient forest lit only by moonlight, moving from icy fruit into deep conifers.
Andrea Maack's FLUX is built around California sequoia, which the brand names as its central raw material. The perfumer is Céline Barel. The published composition is set out in top, heart and base tiers and suggests a path from a cool opening, through a layer of conifers, down to a core of wood.
The top lists cardamom, menthol and blueberry. Cardamom's dry spice meets the chill of menthol, and blueberry adds restrained fruit and a deeper colour. The sweetness stays in the background, like a single berry caught in cold air.
The heart brings together eucalyptus, cypress and fir needles. The clear green of eucalyptus overlaps with the resinous green of cypress and fir, carrying the coolness of the opening into the scent of forest foliage.
The base lists cedarwood, sequoia and cashmere. Here the central sequoia sits beside cedar to form a frame of dry wood, and the layer listed as cashmere softens that hard outline.
It suits moments when cool greenery and wood appeal more than fruity sweetness. Because spice and conifers carry the structure, it also pairs well with textured clothing such as wool and knitwear.
