Francis Kurkdjian treats perfume as an author's medium extending beyond formula into clothing, space, light, and performance. Great diffusion can coexist with intimate skin scent, and classical materials with abstract cleanliness, without either losing definition.

Career

Raised in Paris in a family of Armenian heritage, Kurkdjian studied dance and music before training in perfumery at ISIPCA in Versailles, graduating in 1993. He began creating within the international fragrance industry, then opened a bespoke atelier in 2001 that applied the logic of haute couture to scent. In 2009 he and Marc Chaya co-founded his eponymous house. He was appointed Perfume Creation Director at Parfums Christian Dior in October 2021.

Creative Style & Philosophy

His work combines the legibility of a structure drawn in few lines with carefully engineered diffusion through space. The cleanliness of musk can become temperature and bodily presence; the density of amber can turn into transparent light. Bespoke work begins by listening to a person's life, while work for a house requires rereading historical codes. In both cases, story is translated into dosage, spacing, and persistence rather than attached as verbal decoration.
