Fanny Bal is a French IFF perfumer who joins direct curiosity about everyday odors with rigorous formulation. Rather than pursue polished beauty alone, she develops familiar and slightly strange sensations through bold material relationships.
Career
Born in Paris in 1991, Bal spent childhood smelling flowers, fruit, books, clothes, and household products while making small mixtures from water and leaves. Four years at ISIPCA covered chemistry, botany, regulation, culture, and composition. A request for advice as a student led to an unusual apprenticeship with Dominique Ropion, and she joined IFF in 2015 after developing through both collaboration and individual practice.
Creative Style & Philosophy
Before making a material elegant, she asks why its odor holds attention. Rain humidity, clothing, food, and wooden surfaces can enter a formula through unusual contrasts or deliberately bold dosage. Technical precision learned from her mentor supports rather than suppresses spontaneity.
