Christophe Raynaud is a French Givaudan perfumer who calls himself a craftsman with an artist's sensitivity. A strong first gesture is only a beginning: the olfactory block is worked for hours until structure and light emerge.

Career

Determined in his teens to enter perfumery, Raynaud began at ISIPCA in Versailles in 1990. While studying he worked at Créations Aromatiques with Michel Almairac, then became a junior perfumer at drom in 1993. Experience at Symrise and Quest preceded his move to Givaudan in 2007, where he now holds a senior fine-fragrance role.

Creative Style & Philosophy

At first he acts like an architect, setting the large form and proportion; he then becomes a craftsman, carving edges and adjusting diffusion and trail. Florals, woods, amber, and fruit may appear in bold volume, but the center remains legible. The aim is presence with radiance, a character recognizable even from a distance.
