About Limbanol

Limbanol is a synthetic woody-amber material used to give a composition warm depth. It is chemically distinct from Norlimbanol, despite the similarity of their names. Its role can be found in compositions centred on woods, as well as those built around musks and powdery floral materials.

Scent Profile

The central character is the warmth and depth of woody amber. Alongside iris and musks, that woody element enters a softer, powdery texture. In combinations with oud and incense, it contributes a darker shading around flowers and spices. These pairings bring different expressions of the material into focus: a warm woody presence within a soft musky composition, or a deeper element accompanying smoke, leather and spice.

Use in Perfumery

Limbanol is used in heart and base structures, supporting floral, musky and leathery compositions with woody depth. Sandalwood, balsams and iris offer related expressions of wood, resin and roots. In a rose composition containing ginger and peppers, Limbanol can form part of the contrast between bright spice and darker woods. Its contribution is understood through these combinations, where the surrounding materials shape how the woody-amber character is perceived.
