About DI SER

DI SER is a natural perfume house based in Sapporo, Hokkaido, led by pharmacist and perfumer Yasuyuki Shinohara. Its fragrances bring Japanese scent culture into contemporary perfumery. The house describes its perfume formulas as natural fragrant materials, plant-derived ethanol and water. Its palette includes materials selected from Japan and abroad as well as plants cultivated on its own farm.

History

Shinohara studied perfumery independently and travelled to France to develop his understanding. The activity established in Sapporo in 1999 connects cultivation, distillation and composition. Roses, including the local hamanasu, grow alongside herbs and other plants. Returning distilled plant material to the soil is part of the small team’s approach to a cycle of cultivation and production.

Philosophy & Signature Style

The practice of attending closely to scent in Japanese kodo provides a cultural starting point. Hokkaido plants, citrus, flowers and fragrant woods become ways of expressing landscapes, seasons and stories. The house’s lotus emblem pairs a flower with its reflection on water, representing a connection between the visible and the invisible. The symbol expresses an idea that also runs through its compositions.

Iconic Fragrances

Kyara combines rare fragrant wood with rose and other woods; Sasora brings yuzu and rosewood into an agarwood setting; Hasunoito centers on lotus. These works show how changing the floral and citrus materials around fragrant woods can create distinct characters within the collection.
