A portrait of 1990s high school years spent dancing to heavy metal power ballads: cool spearmint and citrus, a rough edge of cumin and anise, and a leathery finish of poplar bud and labdanum.

Power Ballad returns to Dr. Mike's high school years in the 1990s, spent dancing to heavy metal power ballads. First kisses, chewing gum, checked shirts and worn leather form the memory of a time when grunge signalled rebellion, translated into a fresh, spicy, leathery fragrance.
Spearmint and grapefruit lead, with lime and bergamot adding a bitter-sour snap to the mint's chill. Juniper, cumin, coriander and anise follow; the skin-warm edge of cumin and the sweet bite of anise rough up the clean opening.
The base pairs poplar bud with vetiver, labdanum and cedar. The sharpness of poplar bud and the straight line of cedar are bound by labdanum's dark sweetness, leaving the worn-in austerity of an old leather jacket. Running through it all is nostalgia for an era when sentimental ballads and heavy guitars shared the same song. The perfumer is Amélie Bourgeois.
