Atramental sets out to capture the scent of tattooed skin. The skin is clean but not blank: it carries a person's story, dreams and sometimes protests. The starting image is black water that eau de cologne cannot wash away, ink that stays once it is in.
The brightness of bergamot and lemon soon gives way to the bite of black pepper. Cistus and an aqueous note sit alongside them at the top, so a resinous warmth and a wet coolness move together over clean skin. In the heart, cardamom and black pepper tighten the citrus with a dry spice.
The base holds resins, saffron, Suderal and castoreum. Saffron lingers like the colour of ink left in the skin, while the resins and Suderal seep toward the centre of the scent. Castoreum gives the whole an animal frame, carrying a composition that opened on citrus toward the depth of a mark worn on the body.
Dr. Mike sees a tattoo as a personal story bound to memory. The idea of ink extending a moment from the past across a lifetime underpins the dark warmth of this fragrance.
