About Suederal

Suederal is a leather base from the fragrance manufacturer IFF, also traded as Suederal LT. It is a formulated mixture rather than a single molecule or botanical extract, recreating a suede-like impression through a blend of fragrant materials.

Scent Profile

Its core is a **suede**-like leather: dry, smoky and slightly phenolic, with warm tobacco tones and an animalic edge often likened to castoreum, plus resinous, ambery and earthy shadings. It suggests the napped, velvety surface of suede rather than polished hide, yet it is far from faint — even small amounts make themselves felt.

Use in Perfumery

Suederal is a familiar building block for leather and suede accords and usually sits in the base, where it lingers for a long time. Used in traces, it can add depth and smoky warmth to floral, woody, amber and incense compositions; in larger amounts it pushes a blend toward a distinct suede signature. It pairs readily with cedarwood, sandalwood and patchouli.

Did You Know?

Suede is leather whose surface has been buffed into a soft nap, usually on the inner side of the hide, which is why it feels velvety rather than smooth — the very texture Suederal sets out to evoke in scent.
