Bachanal takes its name from Bacchus, the Roman god of wine and revelry, and J.F. Schwarzlose Berlin ties the name to ecstasy, sensuality and a deliberate step past social limits. A fantasy fragrance of the same name first appeared from the house in the 1920s, a time of cultural awakening, new ideas and the pleasure of discovery. Today's Bachanal is an Eau de Parfum that carries that name and story.

The official notes come in three lines. Bergamot, bitter almond and pistachio set citrus brightness against the gentle bitterness and roasted depth of nuts. Coconut, geranium and patchouli follow, a soft sweetness given shape by leafy geranium and earthy patchouli. The last line, vanilla absolute, cocoa resinoid and woods, adds a darker sweetness and a dry wooden frame.

The house sums it up as creamy, gourmand and fresh. Bergamot and geranium keep air moving through the nutty, coconut-soft centre. The story closes on the idea that the true luxury is sharing these moments with friends, and the scent reads that way too: sweet, sociable and celebratory.
