Autumn In Lhoka

Warm spice from black pepper, saffron, and cinnamon leaf settles into barley and bran, then drifts toward Tibetan incense and birch tar. A smoky, amber-tinged woody scent built around the Himalayan barley harvest.

Autumn in Lhoka translates the September barley harvest of Lhoka, in the Himalayas, into scent. Black pepper, saffron, and cinnamon leaf open the composition. The spice reads less as heat than as dry warmth drifting around sun-warmed grain.

At the center sit barley and bran absolute. The husk of the grain, its milled dust, and a faint sweetness meet fir balsam, which brings a cool resinous shade. Rustic cereal and fresh conifer sound together rather than in sequence, so the heart never settles into a simple gourmand.

In the base, Tibetan incense sends up slow smoke, grounded by earthy patchouli and the tarry, almost leathery char of birch tar. The result is an amber-leaning woody scent that recalls harvest fires and temple smoke.

For wearing, the spice and smoke settle comfortably against wool and heavy knits on a cool autumn evening. Try it when dry grain and deeper smoke suit the mood of the evening.
