A warm, sweetly floral scent of jasmine, rose and ylang-ylang, inspired by chandelier light shimmering in champagne.
The original Estée was the second fragrance created by Mrs. Estée Lauder, introduced in 1968. Its inspiration came at a party, where she noticed light from two crystal chandeliers shimmering in a glass of champagne and wondered how that image might be captured in scent.
The top notes are jasmine, rose and muguet, which put clear, bright florals at the front. Coriander, ylang-ylang and orris form the middle: a faint spice, a sweet and mellow flower, and a powdery softness layered together. The base of sandalwood and moss sets the flowers against smooth wood and damp, shaded greenery.
The brand contrasts the brilliant top with a rich, sensual background. That contrast gives a warm, sweetly floral and classically feminine scent its slightly intriguing quality, so it never reads as simply pretty.
This is the Pure Fragrance Spray, a rich concentration of Estée that sits between Parfum and Eau de Parfum. The bottle has been redesigned, while the scent itself is presented as unchanged.
