Alkout
Oud meets violet, leather, ambergris and musk in a deeper woody composition inspired by the image of a fortress near water.
Perfumer: John Stephen
Alkout imagines a fortress near water as something that can be worn in scent. Created by John Stephen and introduced in 2020, it takes its name from that image while paying tribute to Kuwait. Oud sits at the centre, framed by warmer animalic textures, softer flowers and a saltier contrast.
The composition is presented without separate top or heart notes, concentrating on the depth of its base materials. Oud, ambergris, violet, labdanum, civet and musk meet a leathery texture. Woodier and spicier facets of oud contrast with softer violet and the saltier warmth of ambergris, while resin and musk round out the darker outline.
Consider it for an evening with time to enjoy oud, or when woods with more animalic warmth appeal. The 100mL bottle combines frosted glass with a rose-gold-coloured cap and shoulders. Its circular medallion carries the eagle and fragrance name alongside red, white, green and black details, with the frosting continuing into the glass below.
