D.S.
An attar impression built from accords of yellow lotus, gardenia, rose, saffron and vetiver over Sri Lankan sandalwood, inspired by India's traditional perfume shops.
Perfumer: David Seth Moltz
In a crowded Indian market, a quiet seat at a perfume counter can feel like entering another age. Oils are offered one after another, dabbed from their glass stoppers. D.S. grows out of those shops and, above all, out of an interest in attars.
Attars, the traditional scented oils of India, suggested a way to build a modern perfume. For D.S., David Seth Moltz set out to create the impression of an attar by cooking together accords of yellow lotus, a gardenia made from a plant the perfumer owns, rose, jasmine, saffron and vetiver.
Everything rests on pure Sri Lankan sandalwood oil. Moving from frangipani's white bloom toward agarwood depth, the scent uses choice materials and can only be produced in small batches.
