Kyoto is an eau de toilette from Comme des Garçons' Series 3 Incense, launched in 2002. The house presents the series as incense that makes one dream of a spiritual journey across the world's historical centres, told through five cities: Avignon, Jaisalmer, Kyoto, Ouarzazate and Zagorsk. The fragrance database Fragrantica describes Kyoto as the one devoted to Buddhism and Shintoism. Both Fragrantica and Parfumo credit the composition to Bertrand Duchaufour. Dover Street Market sells it as a 50 mL eau de toilette.
Scent Profile
The official notes are incense, cypress oil, coffee, teak wood, vetiver, patchouli, amber, everlasting flower and Virginian cedar, listed without a top, heart and base pyramid. Incense smoke sits at the centre. Cypress and cedar add a dry, coniferous woodiness, while teak, vetiver and patchouli bring an earthy depth. Coffee and everlasting flower lend a faint roasted note and a dry sweetness, and amber warms the whole composition gently.
Bottle Design
Kyoto uses the Series 3 flacon: a black cylindrical bottle with a silver cap. The word INCENSE appears in white above KYOTO in blue, with SERIES 3 and the COMME des GARÇONS parfums PARFUMS signature near the base. All five bottles in the series share the same shape and differ only in the colour of the city name.
