Opus XIII Silver Oud

A brooding woody‑amber composed around earthy patchouli, smoky cypriol and Assam oud, softened by leathery Madagascar vanilla and resting on a tarry mix of ambrarome, birch, guaiac wood and castoreum for a dark, animalic trail.

Scent Development and Character

A dense, woody‑amber Eau de Parfum that opens with an earthy surge of patchouli polished by smoky cypriol and dry Virginia cedar, immediately immersing the wearer in damp soil and dark woods rather than light citrus. As it warms, a rich Assam oud rises through the structure, threaded with a leathery, almost boozy Madagascar vanilla that rounds the edges without turning gourmand. In the drydown, ambrarome, birch tar, guaiac wood and castoreum fuse into a tarry, animalic haze of smoke, resin and warm leather, leaving a shadowy, book‑lined aura that feels intensely atmospheric and long‑burning.

Who It Is For and When to Wear It

Opus XIII Silver Oud wears as a statement scent: loud in the first hours with assertive smoke, leather and patchouli, then slowly settling closer to the skin while retaining a dark woody presence for most of the day. Its intensity and animalic undertones make it more comfortable in cool weather, night‑time, and formal or contemplative settings than in heat or casual daytime use, where the combination of oud, birch tar and castoreum can feel overpowering. Best suited to autumn and winter, where its smoky oud, leather and amber warmth feel enveloping rather than oppressive; it can also work on cooler spring evenings but is generally too dense for high summer heat except in very small doses. Sillage is Projects strongly in the first few hours with a thick smoky‑animalic aura, then settles to a steady, noticeable trail rather than an intimate skin scent. Longevity is Very long‑lasting, often persisting 10–12 hours or more on skin with a strong residual woody‑smoky stain well into the next day on clothing. These are editorial estimates derived from the official composition and concentration and will vary with skin and climate.

Perfumer and Bottle

Released in 2021, this is presented as Eau de Parfum and credited to Cécile Zarokian. The fragrance is housed in Amouage’s modern Library Collection bottle: a tall, rectangular flacon with clean shoulders and a magnetic cap, finished in a reflective metallic silver tone that echoes the name Silver Oud. The front carries the Library Collection’s circular medallion and Opus XIII Silver Oud inscription, with the juice concealed behind the opaque, mirror‑like surface.
