Ephemeral Night
A smoky woody fragrance built on agarwood and Japanese hinoki, opened by bergamot and spice and paired with a poem about a fleeting night.
Ephemeral Night is a smoky woody fragrance built on agarwood and hinoki, with light spice and smokiness as accents. The brand's accompanying poem moves through a profile lit by pale, hazy light, a blurred dusk and a flame about to go out, closing on a wish for happiness in that moment alone. The fleeting night of the title is that single evening.
The official pyramid lists bergamot and spice at the top, Japanese hinoki in the middle, and agarwood, vetiver and musk at the base. Bitter-edged bergamot and spice form the opening, with hinoki's clean, resinous wood behind them.
At the base sits agarwood, which the brand calls complex and deep. Vetiver, distilled from roots, adds a dry earthiness, and musk softens the edges beneath it, holding the smoky shading together. Wood leads the composition, while citrus and light spice sit at its entrance.
Even the ethanol is chosen with care: it is made from organic brown rice grown in fallow fields in Oshu, Iwate, then fermented and distilled. Each scent also comes with an original soundtrack created by an artist, meant to be heard with eyes closed alongside the fragrance.
