SUGÆR
A sweet amber built on ethyl maltol's caramelised-sugar warmth, layered with acetoin, cocoa, hazelnut, vanilla and benzoin.
Perfumer: Julien Rasquinet
Ethyl maltol is the starting point. ÆTHER describes it as an organic compound that smells of caramelised sugar, toast and hazelnut, and makes it the focus of the perfume. The brand frames the result as sweetness that is calm and vivid at once.
A second material, acetoin, appears under the name acetyl methyl carbinol, which ÆTHER associates with caramel. Its buttery, creamy tone softens the burnt edge of the maltol.
Cocoa and hazelnut add a toasted quality, while vanilla rounds off the sharper sweetness. Cocoa and sandalwood keep the sugar from turning cloying, while benzoin and tonka add a resinous warmth that carries the sweetness into the drydown. Julien Rasquinet composed it.
