About Thomas Fontaine

Thomas Fontaine is an independent perfumer whose interest in history connects the creation of new fragrances with the preservation of older formulas. He founded the perfume creation and consulting company Pallida and serves as president of the Osmothèque. Classical music, gastronomy and history provide different starting points for a practice that moves between perfume heritage and contemporary composition.

Career

After studying at ISIPCA, he worked with Procter & Gamble, Technico Flor, Charabot and Mane. He became independent in 2009 and joined Jean Patou as in-house perfumer in 2011. Since July 2020 he has also led the Osmothèque, contributing to the preservation and sharing of an olfactory heritage that includes fragrances no longer found on the market.

Creative Style & Philosophy

He approaches the reworking of an old formula and the invention of a contemporary accord as connected forms of creation. In his own account, nature, music, literature and painting provide inspiration, while patchouli, saffron, rose and leather are among the materials he returns to. His work with the Osmothèque extends that interest into a broader artistic and cultural understanding of perfume, intended for both professionals and a wider public.
