Spyros Drosopoulos is an independent perfumer and the founder of the Dutch fragrance house Baruti. Born in the Netherlands and raised in Greece, he brings a disciplined scientific mindset and an adventurous creative curiosity to contemporary niche perfumery.

Career

Drosopoulos studied psychology in Germany, completing a doctoral degree focusing on sleep and memory consolidation. In 2009, attending a perfume-making workshop marked a decisive turning point in his life. He chose to leave academia behind to immerse himself entirely in the craft of scent creation as a self-taught perfumer. In addition to leading Baruti, he shares his expertise by teaching intensive perfumery courses at the Institute for Art and Olfaction in Los Angeles.

Creative Style & Philosophy

His creative philosophy centres on demystifying the art of perfumery through an accessible, knowledge-driven perspective. Rather than treating fragrance as an elusive secret, Drosopoulos draws inspiration from real encounters and everyday aromas, deconstructing familiar notes into vivid olfactory structures that balance surprising novelty with emotional resonance.
