About Nicolas Bonneville
Nicolas Bonneville is a French perfumer at dsm-firmenich. He places style and freedom of expression at the center of his work, connecting close observation of natural materials with the direct, democratic energy he admires in Pop and Street Art.
Career
Bonneville fell in love with perfumery during a visit to Grasse at thirteen and returned to train with perfumer Jacques Maurel. His education has continued in the field: jasmine sambac harvests in India, citrus in Italy, iris in Florence, and orange blossom in Tunisia. He also grows roses, mimosa, and other plants in Paris, keeping raw materials close to daily life.
Creative Style & Philosophy
Rather than reproducing nature literally, he borrows from artists who repurpose familiar objects and reinterpret urban experience. Clear communication matters, but unexpected material contrasts create room for freedom and surprise. He also compares perfumery with the endurance racing of his home town, valuing collaboration and collective precision as essential parts of creative success.
Signature Works
- *Cannabis Patchouli* — A measured herbal woody contrast between sage-like light and patchouli shadow.
- *Rose Blush Cologne* — A bright composition built around airy petals and juicy fruit.
