About Nicola Pozzani
Nicola Pozzani is an Italian fragrance creator and educator based in London. His long association with bespoke perfumery at Floris brings the history of a family house into contact with the lives and preferences of individual clients.
Career
Jean-Claude Ellena introduced him to perfumery at the Università dell'Immagine in Milan. His work has included Symrise, Acqua di Parma, The Merchant of Venice and projects at Venice's perfume museum. At Floris he created a fragrance for Queen Elizabeth II. Teaching has taken him to institutions in Britain and Switzerland, alongside work with heritage fragrance houses.
Creative Style and Philosophy
Old formula books, letters and objects help him find a meaningful starting point for a composition. Bespoke work begins with conversation and involves measuring and blending materials by hand. Colour and photography are important companions to this craft: the feeling of watching sunsets at Lake Garda became the brightness and warmth of Golden Amber. He also values time away from a project, using walks, yoga and meditation to return with a fresher perspective.
Signature Works
- *Golden Amber* — Citrus, fruit, flowers and amber expressing the light of an Italian lakeside sunset.
- *Mulberry Fig* — Co-created with Penny Ellis for Floris, bringing fig and orris into a green, woody composition.
