Jasper Li
Hong Kong-based TOBBA co-founder and painter who translates visual layers into fragrance.
About Jasper Li
Jasper Li is a Hong Kong-based perfumer, painter and visual artist who co-founded TOBBA with Adrian Yu. His fragrance practice extends ideas developed on canvas into a medium worn close to the body, connecting visual texture with emotion and personal memory.
Career
Li grew up around his father's painting studio, studied visual art and began learning perfumery independently. He later attended a two-month course run by an ingredient supplier in Bangkok, where classmates from other countries broadened his understanding of fragrance in everyday life and cultural traditions. At TOBBA, he creates fragrances and also works on paintings, photography and other brand visuals, while Yu brings a background in luxury retail.
Creative Style & Philosophy
Layering, contrast and changes in colour temperature guide his approach to scent, just as they do his paintings. Ingredients and personal experiences can initiate a composition, including familiar smells from Hong Kong life. He values sensitivity to surroundings and the willingness to set familiar techniques aside, allowing an unfamiliar method or material to reopen the creative process.
Signature Works
- *Ombre Verte* — cypress, vetiver, flowers and woods translate tonal layers of green into scent.
- *Higher Self* — the memory of a familiar balm and traditional cologne becomes a composition of cooling freshness and soft flowers.
