About Émilie Coppermann
Émilie Coppermann is a Paris-based master perfumer at Symrise. After learning at thirteen that perfumery could be a profession, she set a deliberate path through chemistry and fragrance education.
Career
She studied chemistry and trained at ISIPCA before joining the organization that became Symrise in 1998. Jean-Louis Sieuzac, Dominique Ropion, and Maurice Roucel were among her mentors, and she received the Prix François Coty in 2018.
Creative Style & Philosophy
Coppermann favors the many facets of woods as a structural base. She seeks unexpected shifts—making a flower feel more masculine or a conventionally masculine wood feel feminine—and places curiosity and collaborative exchange at the center of creation.
The contrast is rarely decorative: it gives each stage a clear function. Bright or playful openings can reveal firmer woody architecture underneath, while familiar materials are shifted through dosage and context so that accessibility does not become predictability.
