About Edward Bodenham

Edward Bodenham is a ninth-generation member of the Floris family and a perfumer working at its historic London house. Based in the Jermyn Street shop, he develops collection fragrances and scents tailored to individual customers. Family memories and present-day experiences connect those different aspects of his work.

Career

As a child, he visited his father and grandfather at the shop and became familiar with the smells moving through the building. He continued into the family business, working as Perfumery Director with a team including Penny Ellis and Nicola Pozzani. Fragrance development and bespoke consultations remain within the same historic premises, keeping the creative process closer to the people who will wear the results.

Creative Style & Philosophy

Bodenham sees fragrance as a way to reconnect with forgotten moments and personal memories. Working with the glassware handed down within the family, he relates the balancing of materials to composing music. Respect for earlier work coexists with an interest in newer experiences and materials; the aim is a fragrance that resonates with its wearer’s emotions.

Signature Works

  • *A Rose For...*: Developed following a visit to Moroccan rose fields, it surrounds rose with tea, incense and warmer wood.
  • *Chypress*: A floral chypre whose development he guided with the perfumery team, connecting brighter citrus and flowers with deeper patchouli, amber and musk.
