Dalia Izem
A Givaudan perfumer drawing flowers and spices from Mediterranean culture and personal memories.
About Dalia Izem
Dalia Izem is a perfumer working with Givaudan. Her family's North African and Middle Eastern heritage, together with Mediterranean influences, connects her creative practice to flowers and spices. The everyday scents surrounding those cultures provide a personal starting point for her work.
Career
She grew up with spices and was moved by orange blossom, cardamom, coffee and the scent of Mediterranean summers. Discovering that perfumers combined ingredients as a profession led her towards a craft connected to memory. Living across continents and speaking five languages have allowed her to draw ideas from different cultures and environments.
Creative Style & Philosophy
Cooking, her grandmother's spiced dishes and Mediterranean culture are important sources of inspiration. She describes cinnamon as generous and comforting, bringing a warmer embrace to rose and resin. Linking materials into stories, awakening memories and seeing a fragrance become part of someone's life give her particular satisfaction.
Signature Works
- *Iris Porcelana*: Created for EX NIHILO, the fragrance takes inspiration from the craft of French porcelain. Smooth iris meets rose, wood and musk in a composition that explores delicacy and a closer relationship with skin.
- *Rose Cannelle*: Created for La Closerie des Parfums, it surrounds rose with cinnamon, saffron, resins and wood. The interplay between floral character and warmer spices draws directly on the Mediterranean cultural influences that Izem discusses in her interview.
