About Cristiano Canali

Cristiano Canali is an Italian perfumer at MANE. Raised in a family of pharmacists and doctors, he changed direction after meeting sandalwood producers in India while researching an Ayurvedic pharmacy thesis.

Career

He studied at ISIPCA in Versailles, entered IFF in the Netherlands, and moved to the fine-fragrance laboratory in Paris, where he worked near senior perfumers. After a period at Argeville, he joined MANE’s Milan team in 2024.

Creative Style & Philosophy

Canali looks to nature for answers and describes his method as “minimalistic complexity”: building depth through synergy and contrast without overcrowding a formula. Florals, sandalwood, and animalic textures are treated beyond fixed gender codes.

In finished fragrances, this philosophy produces sharply observed transitions instead of crowded effects. A limited group of materials can carry botanical freshness, tactile warmth, or darkness, with contrast doing the expressive work that a larger formula might otherwise attempt.

Signature Works

  • *Salty Kiss — The Different Company, 2026* — A high-concentration extrait joining salt, seaweed, florals, and amber.
  • *Bee — Zoologist, 2019* — A recognized work exploring the density of honey, pollen, flowers, and resins.
  • *Romanza — Masque Milano, 2015* — A dramatic composition crossing florals, earth, and animalic shadow.
