About Céline Herbette

Céline Herbette is a perfumer based at CPL Aromas in the United Kingdom. Everyday encounters and travel provide a continuing source of ideas: she records intriguing smells in a small notebook and tries to recreate them when she returns to the office.

Career

She studied at the École Supérieure du Parfum in Paris and completed international internships before joining CPL Aromas. Experience in niche perfumery and Middle Eastern markets preceded her work in the UK, where fellow perfumers, including her mentor Kamila Lelakova, and the evaluation team helped her develop her understanding of the market.

Creative Style and Philosophy

Her preferred materials include osmanthus, cedarwood and Muscenone, and discussion with evaluators helps an initial idea develop in unexpected directions. A remembered visit to a Tuscan wine cellar, with its limestone, wine and oak-barrel smells, became a candle she composed after returning home. Sustainability is part of her daily practice, supported by a company index that helps her understand the environmental impact of a composition and consider the materials she chooses.

Signature Works

  • *Lannosea* for Boadicea the Victorious contrasts the brightness of lemon confit and elderflower with the deeper character of coffee, dates and smokewood.
  • *Andraste* for Boadicea the Victorious, co-created with Kamila Lelakova, is a rose-centred floral portrait drawing on the flowers and herbs of a garden.
