About Sugi Wood

Sugi wood describes a drier woody texture with a quieter botanical freshness. In a composition bringing together flowers, citrus and warm sand, it places a calmer woody contour among fuller floral materials. The note can connect a sunlit atmosphere with a more stable and softly supporting woody background.

Scent Profile

A dry grain-like impression meets a greener coniferous shade. Rather than suggesting the density of sweeter resin, the texture offers a quieter depth supporting brighter flowers and fruit. Softer blooms make the woody dryness more apparent, while musk gives its outline a smoother character beside the surrounding notes.

Use in Perfumery

Between cattleya, tiare and brighter citrus, sugi wood can form a bridge from richer flowers towards a warmer background. Tonka, sand and musk provide a sweeter, softer surrounding texture. The wood brings floral fullness closer to a calmer material character, allowing both the bloom and the woody impression to remain.

Did You Know?

Sugi may be described in English as Japanese cedar, but that does not make every cedar perfume note equivalent to it. Keeping the individually stated name preserves the reference to this Japanese conifer. It also helps distinguish the intended woody theme from other materials grouped more generally as cedar.
