About Finger Lime
Finger Lime is an Australian citrus, Citrus australasica, native to rainforest areas along the eastern coast. Its elongated fruit holds small, separate juice vesicles that resemble caviar. The appearance explains the names caviar lime and lemon caviar. The fruit provides a vivid sensory reference: a slender citrus skin enclosing a collection of tiny, juicy pearls rather than familiar wedge-shaped segments.
Scent Profile
In fragrance, finger lime suggests bright tartness and a crisp citrus-peel character, with a fresher green impression alongside the juicy effect. The reference points towards an energetic opening rather than the rounded sweetness of very ripe fruit. Its pearl-like pulp also provides a visual way to imagine an impression that feels sparkling, light and sharply defined.
Use in Perfumery
The note can give a clearer outline to citrus and aromatic compositions. Ginger and cardamom connect its brightness with cooler spice, while neroli and leafy notes extend the fruit towards flowers and green vegetation. Perfumers may express the fruit through an accord: the presence of its name in a fragrance pyramid does not, by itself, establish a particular extract or a single fixed formula.
