ERAM 29–Betsujin is a green floral eau de parfum launched in 2025. It appeared first at Salon de Parfum in Isetan Shinjuku on October 8 and entered general sale on December 1. The standard bottle is 30 mL at ¥13,200, and founder Kohei Oshima has described its fragrance concentration as 23 percent.

The official structure opens with Spearmint and Leafy Green, moves through Igusa, White Floral, and Muguet, and settles into Patchouli, Musk, and Ambergris. The first impression is the quiet of first frost drawn through igusa and white flowers: a cool green line, pale floral light, then a return to the warmth of skin.

The bottle uses clear rectangular glass, a tall black cylindrical cap, and monochrome line art. It follows ERAM's broader visual identity without a publicly confirmed individual artist credit for this specific label.

Perfumer, Brand Background, and Creation Story

Shigeo Kishida is the perfumer. His previous experience with a project that reused old tatami through paint and an igusa aroma informed the material direction. Because igusa is not used as a simple essential oil, its smell was reconstructed through aroma analysis and composed materials.

Takashi Sato held a different role as fragrance adviser, evaluator, and olfactory supervisor. He brought more than forty years of fragrance development experience within the POLA group. Kishida built the formula while Sato helped evaluate its quality and fit with the brand.

ERAM began in July 2023 as an internal-venture subscription service under POLA ORBIS Holdings and was reorganized in November 2024 as a sixteen-scent fragrance brand. Its name comes from an old Japanese word meaning “to choose,” expressing a preference for intuitive selection beyond fixed demographic categories.

Detailed Scent Analysis

Spearmint and Leafy Green form the top. The mint is gentler and sweeter than a sharply mentholated peppermint effect, while the leafy accord brings wet stems and pale vegetation. MANE's proprietary cooling material Physcool® contributes a mild cooling sensation different from a conventional menthol blast; the grade and dosage are not disclosed.

The heart combines Igusa, White Floral, and Muguet. Igusa suggests green grass, dry woven fiber, and tatami, but the white floral layer keeps it from becoming a literal room scent. Lily-of-the-valley brightness creates the visual effect of frost and white petals becoming difficult to distinguish.

Patchouli, Musk, and Ambergris make the base. Patchouli adds soil and shadow, musk rounds the texture toward skin, and ambergris adds dry warmth and diffusion. The result moves from cold air back to bodily presence. Official duration and projection are not published, so the 23 percent concentration should not be treated as a fixed performance guarantee.

Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Herba Fresca also uses mint and green freshness. Herba Fresca emphasizes lemon, clover, and the bright dew of a spring or summer field. 29–Betsujin is less citrus-led, moving through igusa and white flowers toward patchouli and musk. One favors sunlit grass; the other favors pale winter air.

Diptyque Eau de Minthé places mint inside a modern fougère with geranium and patchouli, giving it the shadow of a classic barbershop. 29–Betsujin uses mint as an entrance into igusa, muguet, and a Japanese winter scene. Eau de Minthé feels tailored and darker; 29–Betsujin is quieter, whiter, and more fibrous.

The distinctive point is not mint alone. Aroma-based reconstruction of igusa, the perceptual cooling effect, and the movement from first-frost imagery to returning body warmth give the fragrance its own position among green aromatics.

The regular product is a 30 mL eau de parfum at ¥13,200. No separate EDT, Extrait, older formula, or concentration flanker is officially listed. A 2 mL format has appeared as a sample or set component rather than as a different version. A 2025 winter holiday set paired the 30 mL bottle with five existing 2 mL scents.

It suits wearers who prefer cool leaves, woven grass, white flowers, and quiet earth to sweet florals or obvious citrus freshness. Anyone seeking only a bright mint effect should follow the drydown, where igusa, patchouli, and musk become more important. Begin with one spray and judge the scent after the opening coolness has settled.

Late autumn through winter daytime is the clearest setting: cold commuting hours, libraries, galleries, temples, and interiors with wood or tatami.
