Career

Shigeo Kishida is a Japanese perfumer with long experience at the Japanese arm of a French fragrance company. His career has included fragrance development and organizational leadership, joining international fragrance technique with materials embedded in Japanese daily life. A published interview also describes his involvement in a project that reused old tatami through paint and an igusa aroma.

Creative Style & Philosophy

Kishida does not treat a material name as a decorative symbol. He uses analysis and practical memory to translate temperature, fiber, air, and place into a developing perfume structure. When a material such as igusa does not yield a straightforward essential oil, he reconstructs its olfactory impression and connects that realism with an abstract narrative.

Signature Works

His publicly credited work includes ERAM 29–Betsujin. The composition turns the first frost and white chrysanthemum of Hyakunin Isshu poem 29 into spearmint, leafy green, igusa, white flowers, patchouli, and musk. Kishida created the formula within a system where Takashi Sato, a veteran of fragrance development at the POLA group, provided evaluation and olfactory supervision.
