The inspiration for Koke Shimizu came from a classic waka poem in the Manyoshu. When the fragrance was launched in 2005, Osawa had never visited Yakushima, Japan’s famous moss forest. She constructed this scent entirely from an imagined landscape in her mind. Fast forward to 2024, upon her first visit to Yakushima, she was astounded to find that the real forest perfectly mirrored her creation. This miraculous episode of her imagination aligning with reality 20 years later remains a captivating part of the perfume's lore.

Scent Profile: From Cold Water to Warm Moss

Classified as a green or citrus chypre, the fragrance captures "fresh water springing in a quiet forest, and sunlight falling on a mossy rock face."

**Top Notes (0–20 minutes):** The fragrance opens with an effervescent splash of lemon, bergamot, and herbal notes. It is not an overly fruity citrus, but rather a crisp, watery texture that feels like cold, clear water illuminated by early summer sunlight.

**Middle Notes (20 minutes–1.5 hours):** A delicate heart of muguet, jasmine, and fresh green leaves unfolds. Instead of a loud floral bouquet, these notes act as a backdrop, emphasizing the coolness of shade and the translucency of water filtering through a light green canopy.
