About NICOLAÏ

NICOLAÏ is an independent Paris perfume house founded in 1989 by perfumer Patricia de Nicolaï and Jean-Louis Michau. The company takes responsibility for composition, raw-material selection, production and retail, preserving a direct connection between creative decisions and the finished fragrance. Its manufacturing site is in La Ferté-Saint-Aubin, France, and the range extends from personal perfume to scents for everyday interiors.

History

Born into the wider Guerlain family, Patricia studied chemistry and perfumery before working in fragrance companies. In 1988, her Number One composition received an award from the French Society of Perfumers, preceding the launch of her own house with her husband. Their son Mathieu Michau joined the business in 2014, continuing its development as an independent, family-run company.

Philosophy & Signature Style

Control of the journey from ingredients to production supports the freedom to develop fragrances around an individual creative perspective. Classical perfume structures remain a reference, while themes such as tea, pear, leather and pastry introduce different textures and associations. The collection ranges from clear citrus and floral compositions to more substantial studies of patchouli, spices and woods, allowing materials to take on several distinct roles.

Iconic Fragrances

New York combines citrus, aromatic herbs and spices in an early house signature, while Fig-Tea explores the quieter relationship between fig and tea. Cuir Cuba turns toward tobacco and leather, and gourmand creations such as Saint-Honoré interpret French pastry through the texture of fragrance materials.
