About Jil Sander

Jil Sander is a fashion house founded in Hamburg, Germany, in 1968. Clear lines, material quality and restrained forms are central to its identity, and fragrance extends those concerns into an invisible aspect of dressing. Longstanding perfumes such as Sun sit alongside newer collections that examine the relationship between botanical materials, synthetic ingredients and personal sensory experience.

History

The house developed from founder Jil Sander’s store, presenting its first womenswear collection in 1973. Headquarters moved to Milan in 1994, and menswear followed in 1997. Fragrance began in 1979, while 2025 brought Olfactory Series 1, a collection of six perfumes linking the house’s design language with a more concentrated study of natural materials and aldehydes.

Philosophy & Signature Style

Details that may be hidden from view, such as the interior finish of a garment, are treated as part of the wearer’s experience. The Olfactory Series gives selected botanical materials a particular exposure through the brightness of aldehydes, using contrast to reveal different natural textures. Alcohol made from recycled carbon emissions and selected upcycled fragrance materials also form part of the collection’s approach to formulation.

Iconic Fragrances

Sun interprets summer warmth through flowers and vanilla. Black Tea combines tea with osmanthus and cinnamon, while Leaf explores green plant impressions; later creations such as Shiso and Sesame turn familiar leaves and seeds into distinct olfactory outlines.
