BARUTI is a fragrance house based in the Netherlands. The brand says its name is Greek for “gunpowder,” and can also describe something with bite or edge. It creates perfumes and ambient fragrances, presenting its compositions as genderless scents with distinct personalities.

History

Founder and perfumer Spyros Drosopoulos was born in the Netherlands, raised in Greece, and educated in Germany. He studied psychology and completed a doctorate in sleep and memory consolidation. His official biography says that a perfume-making workshop in 2009 redirected his interests; he later left academia to devote himself to perfumery. BARUTI now formulates and compounds products in its own laboratory in Rotterdam.

Philosophy and Signature Style

The brand aims to bring novelty and familiarity together and describes fragrances inspired by real or imagined stories. Its profile highlights the reconstruction of everyday smells, with flowers, objects, and ordinary encounters serving as starting points. The official FAQ says that Drosopoulos and his team create all formulas and blend them in-house.

Fragrances

The official Chai page describes a perfume interpretation of masala chai, including its milk-froth effect. Mono No Aware draws on the impermanence of scent and the Japanese idea of appreciating things as they pass. Tindrer lists cut grass, twigs, wet soil, violets, white musk, ambergris, heliotrope, and moss.
