Azzurro
Azzurro opens with a bright burst of lemon and bergamot, softens into marigold and jasmine, then settles on cedarwood, peach and amber. A citrus-woody eau de toilette from the 1945 collection, imagined as a ship rocking between dreams and reality.
The 1945 collection is SHOLAYERED's attempt to put the idea of layered time into scent. It was the brand's first collection built around a top-middle-base pyramid. The name comes from the birth year of producer SHO ISHIZAKA's father, a figure he reached while tracing his own roots and wanted to preserve as fragrance.
Azzurro carries the subtitle "a ship rocking between dreams and reality." The brand frames it as a scent for a time of dreaming of success while being shaken by its difficulty, and still holding on to hope when morning comes.
The opening is a bright cluster of bergamot, lemon, tangerine and grapefruit. Lemon leads with a sharp sparkle, and the other citrus notes broaden it into something like early daylight. Marigold and jasmine then follow, bringing a soft, slightly dry floral tone that mirrors a wavering heart without turning heavy.
In the base, cedarwood gives the scent a dry wooden spine, while peach, musk and amber add a rounded fruit sweetness. What remains is a calm blend of wood and gentle fruit, as if the hope for what comes next has been quietly wrapped up. A white shirt or clothes in pale colors suggest an appealing setting for its brighter citrus and calmer woods.
