Rouge Karkade
A Sahara sunset of karkade and hibiscus petals, pomegranate jam, cool buchu and drifting oud smoke.
Perfumer: Coralie Spicher
Karkade is a ruby infusion of hibiscus. Rouge Karkade sets its tartness beside the dense sweetness of pomegranate jam at the opening, then lets the same flower bloom again in the heart as hibiscus petals. Hibiscus appears twice, once as a drink and once as a flower, and that doubling is the scent's quiet twist.
The cool streak comes from buchu from South Africa. Endemic to the biodiverse fynbos of the Western Cape, its leaves are steam distilled into an essence that joins mint and camphor with a vivid blackcurrant-like nuance. That leafy edge runs a thin line through the sweet-tart red of fruit and flower.
The scene is a Sahara sunset: crimson sky, a palm-framed oasis, oil lamps flickering to life and carpets unrolled on golden sand. Madagascan vanilla and Comorian ylang-ylang round the petals with cream, while Moroccan Atlas cedarwood and drifting oud smoke lead the scent into the night.
