Shukran
Morocco's mint-tea welcome, from fizzy nana mint to sweet, earthy tobacco.
Perfumer: Giuseppe Imprezzabile
Shukran is Arabic for "thank you". The perfume grew out of a wish to tell the story of travels in Morocco through scent. Its subject is mint tea, an everyday gesture of hospitality that marked the perfumer’s encounters on the journey.
Moroccan nana mint comes first: green, herbal, faintly sweet and fizzy, with lemon and litsea cubeba keeping the opening lively. Moroccan chamomile and Thai lemongrass take over, the lemongrass bringing a verbena-like freshness that leans toward the Mediterranean.
Gnawa music drifts in from the coast at Essaouira, and a cool, mentholated thread of eucalyptus winds through the medina's narrow lanes. Then the scene turns to sunset in Marrakech. Sweet, earthy tobacco wraps the senses with that same warmth, with sandalwood holding it up from below. The trip closes on an easy evening after a day in the souk, sitting with a hookah and a mint tea.
