Tobak
A tribute to grandfather Martin: sweet, smoky tobacco leaf with vetiver and a warm touch of cinnamon.
Perfumer: Maya Njie
The photograph on Tobak's page was taken in Västerås, Sweden, in 1967: Maya's older sister Anette with their grandfather Martin in his apartment. Martin worked as a stoker, tending the fires of boilers, and he was a conscientious objector with a humanitarian conviction. The perfume honours him as the kindest person the family knew.
Tobacco leaf sits at the centre, its dry sweetness carrying a trace of smoke. Vetiver, a grass root with an earthy, slightly damp character, and a warm thread of cinnamon stand alongside it. The brand pairs an edge of darkness with a sense of comfort.
Underneath are animalic musks and leather, with a warmth that lingers beneath the smoke. Tonka, with its hay-like sweetness, is also among the official key notes.
