Syrus
A jasmine floral chasing a late-summer bloom, edged with sea salt and settled on warm, mossy woods. Formerly Syren.
Perfumer: Maya Njie
Syrus grew out of the heady trail jasmine leaves when it blooms in late summer, a scent likened to a song worth following wherever it goes. It was previously sold as Syren; only the name has changed, not the formula.
At its centre is jasmine sambac, the variety also known as Arabian jasmine, with bergamot, peach, lilac, clary sage and iris bringing green and fruity tones. Sea salt adds a salty, coastal edge. Underneath, ambergris joins rosewood, Virginian cedar, sandalwood and oakmoss to give warm, mossy depth.
The accompanying photograph, taken in Calpe, Spain, in 2022, shows La Muralla Roja, a colourful, fortress-like building that Ricardo Bofill designed in 1968 on the edge of the Mediterranean. Its seaside setting sits naturally alongside the salt in the scent.
