In Madagascar, Alexandra Carlin came across a variety of ginger whose colour turns blue in the light. Its zesty scent carries hints of lemon and verbena, and Carlin recalls knowing at that very minute that it would become a perfume.
Gingerlise sets out to give a fresh reading of the cologne, the classic citrus-led style. The bright clarity of bergamot fuses with the bite of blue ginger, so the freshness gains an edge. Angelica root lays a calmer, rooted shade beneath that brightness.
Light is the thread running through the creation: Madagascar as a land of colour and contrast, where sky meets ochre earth. The encounter with a ginger that changes colour in the light is where the perfume begins.
