Abstraction Raisonnée
Haitian vetiver with tart rhubarb and grapefruit, shaped by nutmeg, jasmine and a dry tobacco finish.
Perfumer: Arnaud Poulain
Abstraction Raisonnée connects artistic abstraction with scientific reason. The first fragrance in the house’s Superclassique collection pairs Haitian vetiver with the tart character of rhubarb. Arnaud Poulain created the eau de parfum, released in 2015.
Grapefruit and rhubarb give the opening brightness with bitter and sour edges. Nutmeg adds warm spice, while jasmine provides a gentler floral link to the base. Vetiver, benzoin and tobacco bring dry grass, wood and a rounded resinous quality into the finish. Fresh fruit is drawn toward a more composed, dry texture.
The clear cylindrical 100mL bottle has rounded shoulders, a square black cap and a label crossed by a fine gold line. It is an appealing daytime option for someone drawn to citrus bitterness and dry vegetation rather than a sweet floral character.
