Hinoki & Cedarwood
A forest-bathing study that moves from a clear, herbal opening into hinoki and dry cedarwood.
Perfumer: Anne Flipo
Hinoki has long been something to protect in Japan. Prized for its fragrance and durability, it was used to build shrines and temples, and the brand notes that it was once guarded by the Samurai. Jo Malone London sets that wood inside the idea of forest bathing, the practice of spending slow, attentive time among trees.
The hinoki material comes from branches that fell naturally in Japanese forests. They are gathered and then processed by artisans in Japan, using wood that has already fallen.
The opening is an aromatic clean accord: fresh, clear and given an unexpected herbal twist. Hinoki takes the heart with woody strength and an aromatic facet, and cedarwood forms a dry, firm base. A faint incense-like dryness runs through the woods.
