Estée Legacy is best understood through the way Mrs. Estée Lauder described her original masterpiece. She asked people to think of a glass parson's table on a white fur rug, of velvety voices, of light in champagne, and explained that her kind of sensuality was seductive and suggestive rather than blatant.
The top is a carnation accord built from clove, a touch of rose and an abundance of jasmine, with the clove's spice giving the flowers a clear outline. Ylang-ylang follows in the heart, adding a fuller, rounder floral sweetness.
The base brings together sandalwood, an amber accord, musk and honey. The honey's sweetness rests on soft sandalwood and musk, leaving a warmth that settles into the skin without feeling heavy. Estée Lauder presents it as a light floral, with a floral musky character.
Frédéric Malle's reimagining keeps the original essence while refining its ingredients and architecture toward a quiet sensuality. Malle himself sums it up as "a quiet addiction."
